Wayne's Thought of the Day:

"The biggest problem facing the world economy isn't that banks or businesses are too big to fail...it's that government is too big to succeed."

Welcome Tea Parties…Goodbye New York Times

Obama is the new Bush

Tea Party Tuesday: The Rebels & Peasants with Pitchforks are in Charge

By Wayne Allyn Root, 2008 Libertarian Vice Presidential Nominee

The New York Times doesn’t get it. They just don’t understand the Tea Party movement, or why it’s popular. I call it V.E.T.O. - Vote Everyone of Them Out. Last week the Tea Party movement added yet another scalp to their trophy case when Republican U.S. Senator Bob Bennett of Utah became the first sitting Senator to be denied re-nomination in 70 years. Add in 15-term Democrat Congressman Mollohan of West Virginia for good measure- yet another D.C. establishment defeat. Today will be another edition of V.E.T.O. – a bloodbath for establishment politicians. And once again the NY Times won’t get it.

Days ago, I predicted that at least 2 of the 3 establishment U.S. Senate candidates would be defeated today- with a good shot at all 3. Rand Paul will win in a landslide over the hand-picked GOP establishment candidate for U.S. Senate in Kentucky. Who would have believed it a year ago? Paul is a doctor with Tea Party views and no political background. His victory today will be the first true Tea Party victory in the U.S. Senate (Scott Brown afterall was a mirage from day one- a traditional moderate Republican who got Tea Party support, but wouldn’t understand a Tea Party if it hit him in the face).

Now reading the “tea leaves” indicates that incumbent Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter is a goner too. How do I know? Obama refused to campaign with him in the final days of his U.S. Senate campaign in Pennsylvania. So did his good buddy Vice President Joe Biden, who orchestrated Specters switch from GOP to Democrat. Biden actually spoke in Pennsylvania yesterday, but avoided Specter like the plague. This is a sign in politics that funeral plans are being made, while the body is still warm. So much for the bonds of friendship in politics. Friendship is as deep as your latest poll numbers. As the saying goes, “If you want a friend in D.C., get a dog.”

But the more telling incident of the day was the comment made by Democrat Governor Ed Rendell. When asked about Obama not campaigning for Specter, the loyal Democrat attack dog Rendell actually said out loud that Obama campaigning in Pennsylvania for Specter would have been a mixed bag anyway- because of Obama’s unpopularity among blue collar Democrats. Wow. Who would have believed that comment only 16 months ago when Obama was being inaugurated as the most popular President since JFK? In 16 months Obama has turned from hero to toxic waste. Talk about irony…the Tea Party movement is now seen as a savior by mainstream voters, while Obama is being avoided like the plague by his OWN candidates. Obama is the new Bush.

How the worm has turned. Perhaps there is yet hope for America. People get it. Rand Paul’s victory and Specter’s sure defeat make the score 2-0 against the establishment. Add in Bennett and Mollohan. 4-0. Add in Governor races in New Jersey and Virginia last fall. 6-0. Or if you’re scoring for Obama 0-6. That leaves Blanche Lincoln in Arkansas. If she is forced into a June runoff in today’s primary, that is the equivalent of a political earthquake. But no matter- Lincoln is merely fighting it out for the right to be pummeled by the GOP Senate candidate in November.

Indeed. The worm has turned. The Tea Parties have become important in the political process. The rebels and peasants with the pitchforks are in charge. Obama is reviled. And the New York Times is clueless, powerless and irrelevant. What a difference 16 months makes in politics.

The Real Obama Economic Plan: Overwhelming the System to Destroy Capitalism and Freedom.

It’s time to stop mincing words. Obama is not a fool. He is not incompetent. He is not a madman. He knows exactly what he’s doing. He is purposely overwhelming the U.S. economy to create systemic failure, economic crisis, and social chaos- thereby destroying capitalism and our country from within. But the bonus is brilliant…as he destroys and taxes to death business owners, he also cripples his political opposition.

Rahm Emanuel cynically said, “You never want a crisis to go to waste.” It is now becoming clear that the crisis he was referring to is Obama’s Presidency. As Glenn Beck correctly predicted from day one, Obama is following the plan of Cloward & Piven, two professors at Obama’s Columbia University. In 1966, they outlined a plan to socialize America by OVERWHELMING the system with government spending and entitlement demands. Add up the clues below. Taken individually they’re alarming. Taken as a whole, it is a brilliant, Machiavellian game plan to overwhelm the system, wreck the U.S. economy, damage or destroy the free market, in order to turn the U.S. into a socialist/Marxist state with a permanent majority that desperately needs government for survival.

*Universal healthcare. The healthcare bill had very little to do with healthcare. It had everything to do with adding millions of new union and government employees (sixteen thousand new IRS agents) feeding at the public trough. Obama doesn’t care that giving free healthcare to 30 million Americans will add TRILLIONS to the national debt. Or that not one new doctor was added to the system, thereby causing a healthcare crisis. What he does care about is that it overwhelms the system and cements the dependence and loyalty of those 30 million voters to Obama and big government. Who but a socialist revolutionary would pass this reckless spending bill in the middle of a depression? Why now? Why the rush? Why risk destroying the economy on a reckless, unproven scheme? There is only one answer -- OVERWHELM THE SYSTEM.

*Cap and trade. Like healthcare legislation having nothing to do with healthcare, cap and trade has nothing to do with global warming. It has everything to do with overwhelming the system, redistribution of income, government control of the economy and a criminal payoff to unions and Obama’s biggest contributors. Those powerful and wealthy unions and contributors (like GE who owns NBC, MSNBC and CNBC) can then be counted on to support everything and anything Obama wants. They will kick back hundreds of millions in contributions to Obama and the Democratic Party to keep them in power. The bonus is that all the new taxes on Americans with bigger cars, bigger homes and businesses helps Obama “spread the wealth around.” Who but a socialist revolutionary would pass this reckless tax and spending bill in the middle of a depression? Why now? Why the rush? Why risk destroying the economy on a reckless, unproven scheme? There is only one answer -- OVERWHELM THE SYSTEM.

*Make Puerto Rico a state. Why? Who's asking for a 51st state? Certainly not the Puerto Ricans, who have repeatedly voted against it, and certainly not American taxpayers. Who's asking for millions of new welfare recipients and government entitlement addicts in the middle of a depression? But this has been Obama’s plan all along. His goal is to add two new Democrat Senators, five Democrat Congressman and a million loyal Democratic voters who are dependent on big government. Who but a socialist revolutionary would support this reckless scheme in the middle of a depression? Why now? Why the rush? There is only one answer -- OVERWHELM THE SYSTEM.

*Legalize 12 million illegal immigrants. Just giving these 12 million potential new citizens free healthcare alone could overwhelm the system and bankrupt America. But hey...it adds 12 million reliable new Democrat voters- who can be counted on to support big government. Add another few trillion dollars in welfare, aid to dependent children, food stamps, free medical, education, tax credits for the poor, and eventually Social Security. Who but a socialist revolutionary would support this in the middle of a depression? Why now? Why the rush? There is only one answer -- OVERWHELM THE SYSTEM.

*Card check. This disastrous bill creates more union employees EVERYWHERE- all of them Democratic voters. More union employees mean more union dues and hundreds of millions of new dollars to spend on campaign contributions to Democrats. Who cares that it will damage the capitalist system? Who but a socialist revolutionary would support this scheme in the middle of a depression? Why now? Why the rush? There is only one answer-- OVERWHELM THE SYSTEM.

*Stimulus & Bailouts. Where did all that money go? It went to Democrat contributors, organizations (ACORN), and unions- including billions of dollars to save the jobs of government employees across the country, and billions more to hire new government employees. It went to save GM and Chrysler, so that their employees could keep paying union dues. It went to AIG so that Goldman Sachs could be bailed out (after giving Obama almost $1,000,000 in contributions). A staggering $125 billion went to teachers (thereby saving their union dues to teachers unions). All those public employees will vote loyally Democrat to protect their bloated salaries and pensions that are bankrupting America. And their union dues will be forwarded directly to Obama and Democrat politicians. All while the private sector is melting down. Pretty soon a government job will be the only game in town. The country goes broke, future generations face a bleak future, but Obama, the Democrat Party, government, and the unions grow more powerful. The ends justify the means. OVERWHELM THE SYSTEM.

*Spend trillions on bailouts. Who needs welfare mothers, when you can addict America’s largest companies on welfare? These companies are now beholden to Democrat politicians and therefore powerless to criticize anything Obama does. The trillions to GM, Chrysler, AIG will never be paid back. But, that’s no concern to a socialist revolutionary who wants to destroy capitalism, control business, and OVERWHELM THE SYSTEM.

*Raise taxes ONLY on small business owners, high-income earners, and job creators. Put the entire burden on 10% of the population, redistribute the income, punish success, and reward those who did nothing (except vote for Obama). Why? Because such a plan destroys the group that contributes the most money to fiscally conservative politicians and causes. Reagan wanted to dramatically cut taxes in order to “starve the beast” (by cutting off funds for government). Obama wants to starve his political opposition by taxing them to death. OVERWHELM THE SYSTEM.

With the acts outlined above, Obama and his regime have created a vast and rapidly expanding constituency of voters dependent on big government; a vast privileged class of public employees who work for big government; and a government dedicated to destroying capitalism and installing themselves as socialist rulers by OVERWHELMING THE SYSTEM.

My God...Add it up and you’ve got the perfect Marxist scheme.

Only one thing stands in their way – you and me, the American taxpayers. If we want to save the greatest country and economic system in world history, we had better get busy. We had better fight back hard. Our children and grandchildren’s futures are at stake. And please don't assume the GOP is the answer. They had their chance. Bush spent irresponsibly; Bush never vetoed a single spending bill; Bush supported bailouts, earmarks and stimulus; Bush was responsible for the Medicare expansion; Bush spent a trillion dollars on two never-ending wars; Bush was the disaster that opened the door for Obama.

The answer is to support true fiscal conservatives who understand that national debt is the real global threat to our survival. Libertarians who truly support economic freedom are the real Tea Party candidates who want to truly change "business as usual" in Washington D.C. Libertarians don’t just talk the talk- we walk the walk. On November 2nd let's throw every incumbent in Congress out (with a few exceptions like Ron Paul)...and if the new class let's us down...let's throw them all out again in 2012. Eventually they'll get the message- the citizens are in charge.

HOMESCHOOL TO HARVARD: A Remarkable Education Story!

This is the story that makes teachers unions cringe. This is the story that proves that depending on government is an error in judgment. This is the story that proves no matter what the question, the answer is more freedom, choice, individuality and personal responsibility. This is the personal story of my daughter Dakota Root.

Dakota has been home-schooled since birth. Since almost the day that Dakota was born, her mom and dad taught her to aim for the sky. We all dreamed of her acceptance at either Stanford or Harvard. For 18 years we talked about it, planned for it, and worked for it. "Homeschool to Harvard" is a story about turning dreams into reality. And it all happened right here in the Las Vegas Valley- without government, teachers unions or education bureaucrats involved. Imagine that?

While other kids spent their school days being indoctrinated to believe competition and winning are unimportant, Dakota was learning the value of work ethic, discipline, sacrifice and personal responsibility. While other kids were becoming experts at partying, Dakota and her dad debated current events at the dinner table. While other kids shopped and gossiped, Dakota was devouring books on science, math, history, literature, politics and business. While other kids came home to empty homes, Dakota’s mom, dad, or both were there every day to share meals, a bedtime kiss, and prayer with our four home-schooled kids.

While others were out experimenting with alcohol and drugs, Dakota was practicing the sport she loves with dedication, intensity and passion- fencing. The result? She became one of the elite junior fencers in America- winning the Pacific Coast Championship and representing the United States at World Cup events in Germany and Austria.

Was all the discipline and sacrifice worth it? A few days ago, Dakota achieved her lifelong dream. She was accepted at both Harvard and Stanford. She was also accepted at Columbia, Penn, Brown, Duke, Chicago, Cal-Berkeley, Virginia, USC and several more of the elite schools in America. She actually had the confidence to turn down an offer from the Yale fencing coach before she had gotten her other acceptances. The kid turned down Yale!

Here is the most amazing part of the story: The first classroom of Dakota's life will be inside the hallowed halls of Harvard. This fall she will fence for the Harvard team- one of America’s best. Out of 3 million high school seniors, only an elite 1% (30,000) of the best and brightest dared apply to Harvard. Virtually every one was #1 in their class, or a world-class scholar/athlete, or had perfect S.A.T. scores. Only 6.9% were accepted- the lowest acceptance rate in college history. To be accepted at one or two Ivy League colleges is rare- to all, an almost impossible feat!

At a time of educational free-fall, it is a remarkable story. With America’s public school system ranked at or near the bottom of the industrialized world (and Nevada near the bottom of that), with record dropout rates, violence, gangs, drugs, teen pregnancies, and the scandal of graduating high school seniors requiring remedial math and reading before starting at college, Dakota’s story offers hope. Dakota proves the American Dream is alive, if only we’d stop depending on government to save us.

Is Dakota's story unusual? Actually no. A recent study proved that home-schooled kids score almost twice as high on exams as public school students. Other studies prove that home-school kids score dramatically higher on SAT exams (Dakota scored multiple perfect 800 scores on her SAT's).

There is no one answer for education- our choice of home-schooling melded parental education with tutoring by hand-picked retired teachers and college professors, combined with a personally-chosen curriculum. That's called parental freedom. By the way, I respect and applaud teachers. I think most of them work hard, sacrifice and care for their students. Dakota owes her home-school success to several retired teachers who are like members of our family. Those same retired teachers are now teaching a new generation of my children- ages 2, 5 and 10.

But teachers unions and education bureaucrats are a far different story. Education in this country has deteriorated for decades under their leadership. Home-schooling worked for our family because we took the best of education- dedicated parents and professional educators, and eliminated the worst- no unions or government bureaucrats involved.

In the end, the power to decide how to best educate children belongs with the parents, not teachers unions or government. The way to force public schools to improve includes school choice; reducing the power of unions so that it's possible to fire under-performing teachers and reward superior ones; and offering vouchers on the state level to give parents the power (and money) to choose education alternatives. Competition works. If it’s good enough for Coke and Pepsi, why not public schools?

Education has been on a downhill spiral since the day that the government and unions took control. Dakota Root proves it doesn’t take a state certified teacher, or a teachers union, or a village to raise a child- what matters most is having two loving parents who give a damn. One home-schooled girl has driven a stake through the heart of the public school education monopoly. “Homeschool to Harvard” is a powerful story that every parent should be allowed to offer to their children.

Why America Faces a Big Fat Greek Bankruptcy

Why We’re All Greeks Now.

Forget Global Warming- Catastrophic Government Spending Is the True Threat to Our Survival.

Have you read the news lately? Greece is bankrupt. The entire country was poised to default on its debt, when the European Union (led by Germany) and the IMF (led by the USA) decided to bail them out…or risk the collapse of the entire EU and their currency, the euro. As always happens any time government is involved, the dollar figure necessary to save Greece keeps rising…first it was $50 billion…then $100 billion…now $145 billion, the biggest loan to a country ever.

But here’s the clincher- this gigantic loan will last only one year. The IMF (International Monetary Fund) assumes in one year, when Greece needs more money to stem the flow of red ink, they’ll be financially stable enough to attract loans on the open market, with no more government help. But what if the IMF is wrong? Then we’ll see one big fat Greek meltdown- taking all $145 billion down the tubes (much of it from U.S. taxpayers). That’s assuming that Greece is telling the truth about their debt in the first place. But just like the U.S. government, Greece has lied to themselves, and their citizens for years. And just like AIG, GM, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the failing public school system in America- the money we give Greece will never be enough. It’s a bottomless pit.

But Greece is the EU’s smallest problem. The other PIGS (Portugal, Italy, Ireland and Spain) are in far deeper trouble than Greece. Unfortunately the EU and IMF just used up most (if not all) of their bullets on Greece. There isn’t enough money in the world to bail out the rest of Europe. We are staring at economic Armageddon.

So what caused this? Very simply, big government and government employee unions. Greece’s problem is Europe’s problem…and following closely behind, America’s problem too. We’re all Greeks now. Quite simply, Greece’s problem starts and ends with government employee unions. There are too many government employees (1 in 3 Greek citizens works for government); their salaries are way too high; their bonuses can only be described as insane (2 months for each public employee); their pensions are ridiculous (retirement far too young and free healthcare for life); and their government jobs are guaranteed for life.

Sounds crazy, right? Sounds like in Greece the inmates must be running the asylum. Except America has the exact same problem. California, New York, New Jersey and Illinois are our very own homegrown version of Greece. These states are bankrupt, insolvent, and desperately need a bailout. Why? For the same reasons as Greece. Far too many government employees; bloated salaries for civil servants; bonuses and raises are contractually obligated even during an economic crisis; sky high pensions; and jobs guaranteed for life. The only difference is that we are a nation of 300 million, so the debt is far bigger than Greece. It turns out that we are Greece squared.

The solution to save America from economic Armageddon? Simple. Use the same “austerity measures” imposed upon Greece, in return for this $145 billion loan, to dramatically cut spending on government employees:

*Freeze government hiring for the next 3 years.

*Eliminate bonuses and raises for the foreseeable future.

*Institute layoffs and across the board wage cuts. Why should government employees enjoy “privileged status” that no employee in the private sector enjoys?

*Change pensions from ‘defined benefit’ to ‘defined contribution’ pension plans, meaning retirees receive only what has been built up in their 401K type retirement accounts.

*Raise the retirement age. In Greece it is going from age 53 to 67. Gold-plated pension plans are the single biggest factor that bankrupted Greece. The same problem bankrupted U.S. automakers GM and Chrysler.

*Require government employees to pay more of their healthcare (through co-pays and deductibles).

*Change the way pensions are calculated by eliminating overtime and raises in the last years of employment to “game the system”.

The real global threat to our existence isn’t global warming- it’s catastrophic government spending and, more specifically, spending on government employees. Our government’s unfunded liabilities are now estimated at $60 to $75 trillion over the coming decades. To give you some perspective, the New York Post recently reported that one New York firefighter is retiring on a pension of $240,000 per year. If he lives 40 years beyond retirement, that will cost the taxpayers almost $10,000,000. That’s for one single government employee. There are millions upon millions of them on the federal, state and local level. Can you say “fiscal disaster?”

Government employees should be cheering these solutions. The plan above might actually save their jobs and pensions. But keeping the status quo of unsustainable spending will sink this country- in which case government employees will lose their jobs and pensions. Anything that saves our economy, will be healthier for them (as well as the rest of us) in the long run.

It turns out that the Greek model is the American model. It turns out that we need saving too. We're all Greeks now. We either stop the insanity, or we wind up with our own big fat Greek bankruptcy.
